Shortly after the birth of her nephew, she discovered she was pregnant with her third son. Determined to experience what she had witnessed, she hired the same midwives to care for her. This meant that she traveled 350 miles for her appointments. She was willing to go to any length to have a different birth story. Her third son was born via VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) in a hospital setting with her midwives by her side. While she had numerous interventions in the labor and birth, at every point she felt consulted, informed, heard, and respected.

Over the next few years she immersed herself in all things birth. She became a childbirth educator and completed all necessary courses to enter nursing school believing she might like to become a certified nurse midwife.

However, the spring before she was to start the program, she found out she was pregnant again. Instead of starting school, she hired a local midwife, and on a sunny Friday afternoon that winter, her fourth son was born in the comfort of her own home.

Megan shifted her focus and she became convinced that her path in midwifery was in a home setting as a Licensed Midwife. She enrolled in midwifery school shortly after the birth of her son and began her apprenticeship with the very same midwife who had attended his birth. After completing four years of classes and clinical training, Megan sat for the NARM exam and became licensed to practice. She’s been doing so ever since.

Having attended home births in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties since 2006, the entire area holds sweet, precious memories of houses she has visited, families she has known, and babies she has caught.
